Transfer web hosting without any down time

Transferring a host might be a painful task if you don’t follow the right path. It involves stuff like copying the files from one host to other,If you own a blog forum or any other content management system you need to backup your database and upload it on the new server, point your DNS servers to the new host. If you don’t plan and do these things in an organized manner then you may have to experience some down time of your site. This down time may effect your site reputation, earnings and traffic badly. Here is a very useful tutorial written by McKremie web hosting solutions which will make your transfer process a smooth drive without any down time. Don’t forget to check it if you are planing to change host.

Thanks for the article, I’m looking for to do this so there is no downtime. I don’t want to lose any money or make any vistors mad. How long does changing the DNS take??????

  2. Satish says:

Changes made to the dns server may take at least 2 to 3 hours to propagate. Every internet service provider (ISP) has their own dns servers. These will be constantly synchronized with the main dns server. The delay is due to this synchronization. As we will not be deleting the files on the old server, users to whom the changes have not propagated will view the site on your old host.

that’s fast, 2-3 hours is nothing I can get it all done in one day.

Well if your host has great support then ask both of your
old and new host to set TTL ( time to leave ) for your domains to
600 , Then there will be hardly any downtime while
    moving to new host :)

I used to adminsiterate WHM and H-sphere and moving
websites is my day to day work :) Hardly any website gets
    a downtime for DNS change..
